"By three methods we may learn wisdom:
First, by reflection, which is noblest;
Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest. "

A sketch, or comp, circa 1990's. I have three subjects I really can get lost in. Flowers, Critters of any sort including insects, and people. A Portrait is the most challenging thing to do.
The quote is very much about all things in life, and for me very much about the way I approach art. I constantly reflect on what I am doing and what I have done. Imitation teaches you about how others have successfully approached a problem. Experience is key to becoming a decent artist. Practice, practice, practice.
